Strategy Consulting

Market

United Kingdom

Foremark, a UK-based strategy consulting firm, needed an identity that could stand with confidence in an industry where most competitors play it safe. The consulting category is full of navy blue, approachable sans-serifs, and abstract marks that could belong to anyone.

The brief was direct: communicate precision, forward momentum, and the kind of authority that wins boardroom trust — without tipping into the sterile corporate aesthetic that makes every consulting firm look like the last one. The brand needed to be distinctly Foremark. Not generically "consultancy."

The solution centres on a custom symbol derived from the letter F, built on Swiss grid principles, paired with Helvetica Now, and punctuated by a vibrant orange accent that cuts through an otherwise neutral system.

Foremark logomark

Strategy consulting is a category that punishes average design. A weak identity signals a weak point of view — and a firm that advises others on clarity of thinking cannot afford to look unclear about itself.

"Authority without arrogance. Precision without sterility."

The primary challenge was differentiation without eccentricity. The identity had to be distinctive enough to own the room — but considered enough to belong in it. A mark that looks designed for a branding agency won't earn trust from a CFO. A mark that looks like every other consulting firm won't earn attention from anyone.

The secondary challenge was system consistency across contexts. Consulting firms operate across an enormous range of touchpoints — from business cards and letterheads to 60-slide pitch decks and environmental signage. The identity system had to perform at every scale without losing coherence or impact.

Swiss design principles applied throughout. Every element — the mark, the margins, the type, the colour — has a reason for being there. Everything without a reason was removed.

01

SYMBOL DESIGN

The custom mark is derived from the letter F — but not literally. Sharp geometric cuts are contrasted with smooth curves to express the tension between precision and forward momentum. The form reads as a mark before it reads as an initial, which is exactly right for a brand at this level.

02

GRID SYSTEM

Swiss grid principles applied throughout. Every element — margins, type, imagery, iconography — aligns to a strict underlying structure. The discipline isn't visible in the final work, but its absence would be immediately felt.

03

TYPOGRAPHY — HELVETICA NOW

Helvetica Now was chosen for its authority, versatility, and the specific quality it brings at scale. At large sizes it commands a page. At small sizes it remains legible. It carries decades of institutional weight without feeling dated — exactly what a strategy firm requires.

04

COLOUR — NEUTRAL + ORANGE

A neutral foundation — white, black, cool grays — holds the system together. The vibrant orange accent was introduced not to suggest warmth or friendliness, but to suggest clarity. It's the accent that makes a recommendation impossible to ignore. Orange in a gray room doesn't whisper.

A complete brand system built to perform at every scale — from a business card to a boardroom presentation. The identity is distinctive, precise, and impossible to misattribute.

The Foremark identity works because every decision is justified. The mark is geometric but not mechanical. The typography is authoritative but not cold. The orange is vibrant but not casual. Each element was chosen to do a specific job within the system — and nothing was added that didn't earn its place.
